The School District of Indian River County is sharing an update with families regarding school schedules for the 2026–2027 school year. On Monday, February 23, 2026, the School Board unanimously approved the proposed start and dismissal times following a comprehensive planning and community engagement process.
The approved proposal reflects a thoughtful approach designed to enhance student learning experiences, improve operational efficiency, and better align school schedules with the needs of students, families, and staff. The decision was informed by two phases of stakeholder feedback, transportation modeling, and operational analysis.

Wabasso School and IR PREP will continue to operate on independent schedules.
Community input played an important role throughout the process. Survey participation included responses from families and staff across all grade levels, with a majority expressing support for the proposed adjustments. Family feedback included 261 very supportive responses and 171 supportive responses, while staff feedback included 121 very supportive responses and 72 supportive responses.
Overall feedback highlighted support for increased consistency across grade levels, reasonable dismissal times that allow participation in extracurricular activities and employment opportunities, and improved transportation efficiency.
The District appreciates the partnership of families, staff, and community members who shared feedback throughout this process. Collaboration and engagement continue to guide decisions that support students and strengthen school experiences across the district.
